Once you've generated and reviewed your clinical note in Attend, you can send it directly to the patient's chart in Elation with a single click. This eliminates manual copy-pasting and streamlines your documentation workflow.
This article explains how to send notes to Elation, what to expect when they arrive, and how to track your sent notes.
How to Send a Note to Elation
Prerequisites
Before you can send a note, you must:
Have a completed note generated in Attend
Be satisfied with the note content (or have made necessary edits)
Have your Attend account properly linked to your Elation account
Step-by-Step Process
Generate and review your note in Attend
Complete your encounter recording
Review the AI-generated documentation
Make any necessary edits using the revision feature or manual edits
Click the "Send to EHR" button
Located near your completed note
The patient selection window will appear
Select your patient
Choose from today's schedule, or
Search for the patient by name
Click on the patient's tile to select them
Confirm the send
You'll see a success message confirming the note was sent
The note is now in the patient's Elation chart
💡 Tip: Review your note carefully before sending. While you can edit the note in Elation after sending, it's more efficient to finalize your documentation in Attend first, using the AI editing capabilities if needed.
What Happens in Elation
Note Status
When your note arrives in Elation, it is created as an unsigned draft.
This means:
The note is saved in the patient's chart
It is not yet part of the official medical record
You can still edit the content
You must review and sign the note to finalize it
Viewing Your Note in Elation
Navigate to the patient's chart in Elation
Refresh the page if necessary to ensure Elation displays the latest content
You will see a draft note with your content from Attend
Open the note to review
Editing in Elation Before Signing
You can make edits to the note directly in Elation before signing:
Open the draft note in Elation
Make any necessary changes or additions
Review the complete note
Sign the note when you're satisfied
⚠️ Important: Any edits made in Elation will not sync back to Attend. The version in Elation becomes the official record once signed.
Sending Multiple Notes to the Same Patient
You can send multiple notes to the same patient on the same day if needed.
What happens:
Each note is created as a separate draft entry in Elation
Notes do not overwrite or update each other
Each note can be reviewed and signed independently
Common scenarios for multiple notes:
Initial visit note and a follow-up phone call the same day
Revised note after additional information becomes available
Tracking Sent Notes
Success Confirmation
When a note is successfully sent to Elation, you'll see a confirmation message immediately.
The confirmation tells you:
The note was delivered successfully
Which patient received the note
Viewing Send History
If you want to send the same note again (for example, after making edits in Attend), you can see when it was last sent:
Navigate to the encounter with the note you want to resend
Hover over the "Send to EHR" button
You'll see a tooltip showing when the last note was delivered for that encounter
This helps you:
Confirm that a note was already sent
See how recently the note was delivered
Decide if you need to send an updated version
Resending a Note
You can resend the same encounter note to Elation multiple times if needed:
Make edits to your note in Attend (if desired)
Click the "Send to EHR" button again
Select the same patient
A new draft note will be created in Elation
⚠️ Important: Resending does not update or replace the previous note. It creates a separate new draft note in Elation. You'll need to manage multiple drafts in Elation and delete any you don't need.
Best Practices
Review Before Sending
Always review your note carefully before sending:
Check for accuracy and completeness
Verify patient-specific details are correct
Ensure the assessment and plan are appropriate
Make revisions in Attend if needed
It's easier to get it right the first time than to manage multiple drafts in Elation.
Refresh Elation After Sending
After sending a note, refresh the patient's chart in Elation to ensure you're viewing the most current information. Browsers sometimes cache content, and refreshing ensures the new draft appears.
Sign Notes Promptly
Draft notes in Elation are not part of the official medical record until signed. Make it a habit to:
Review and sign notes the same day when possible
Clear your unsigned drafts regularly
Avoid accumulating unsigned notes
Common Questions
Q: Can I send a note to update an existing draft in Elation?
A: No. Attend always creates a new draft note. It cannot update or append to existing drafts started in Elation or previously sent from Attend.
Q: What if I send a note to the wrong patient?
A: In Elation, you can delete the draft note from the incorrect patient's chart. Be careful to select the correct patient before sending from Attend.
Q: Can I send notes to Elation after hours or on weekends?
A: Yes. The integration works 24/7. You can send notes at any time, and they'll appear as drafts in Elation for you to review and sign later.
Q: How long does it take for the note to appear in Elation?
A: Notes typically appear within seconds. If you don't see the note immediately, refresh the patient's chart in Elation. If it still doesn't appear after a minute, see the troubleshooting article.
Q: Will sending a note trigger any notifications in Elation?
A: No. You will need to refresh the timeline in Elation to see the note draft.
Q: What if the "Send to EHR" button is grayed out or not available?
A: This may indicate your account is not properly linked to Elation. See the troubleshooting article or contact [email protected].
